ORGAN RECITALS.

BROADCASTING FAILURES AT AUCKLAND. [THE FEEBS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, I'ebruarj -i. The dismal failure that has attended tho broadcasting of Town Hall organ recitals was referred to at a meeting of tho Auckland City Council, particularly in view of tho fact that the Town Hhll orgau ia admittedly superior to any other in Auckland. It was stated that organ music of a pleasing naturo from tho local station had been from Pitt street Church, tho Baptist Tabernaclo, and St. Mary'a Church, and that if the Town Hall organ music could be transmitted successfully pleasure would bo given to thousands of listeners. _ In a report on tho matter the city organist stated that organs were difficult instruments for broadcasting purposes, and tho difficulties were increased when dealing with a spacious hall and an organ of wide range of tone, quality, and power. It was evident that recitals had not been broadcast to the satisfaction of "listenersin " but as far na lie could ascertain the trouble was that the softer effects of tho organ could not be heard, lnia a doubt as to whether it is possible to do justice to both »" audience in the Town Hall and tho "listen-ers-in " Ho would not express a definite opinion without having satisfied himself that there was no way of overcoming tho present difficulty, and he recommended that the Broadcasting Company should bo asked to co-operate in experiments, particularly in regard to deciding which would be the best position to place a microphone. The organist's report was "adopted.
