LOSS, £2OOO.
MOTOR-CARS BURNED AT DUNEDIN. [THE PRESS Special Service.] . DUNEDIN, February 3. Fire broke out iu General Motors (N.Z.), Ltd's store last night at 11 p.m. There were about sixty cars in tho store at tho time of the fire, and nearly half of these were affected. About nineteen assembled cars were more or less ueriously damaged, but all of them can be repaired. Half a dozen new Buick cars, that had only just been assembled from packing cases, suffered most, three of them being mere skeletons of ironwork this morning. Besides these, eight or nine cars stored in cases must have also been affected, but fney had not been opened up this morning. Most of the cases were charred in places, but it is probable that the damage will be confined to the woodwork and the upholstering. The manager (Mr Nivcn) stated this morning that he anticipated that the loss would be about £2OOO, but it would be difficult to arrive at a reliable estimate until all the cars were unFrom appearances it is fairly obvious that the outbreak originated in a large rubbish bin near the main entrance. The fire probably sprend from there to a-number of dismantled packing cases which evidentlv conducted tho flames to the roof, where the flames were breaking through when the brigade arrived.
