White objecting to much in the book as untenable or inconsistent. Professor Harry declares that it is a fine book which has been "verr ehurlishlv received' l'. v Church reviewers. "Hut," l>e •«»"• "people who write books about our Lord are not often encouraged by the Church," and he recalls the "charitable welcome with which an eminent Chur.-h----man of the time greeted the publication of 'LVe Homo.* " viz.. "the most pestilent book ever vomited out ot the jaws of hell." Despite his own strictures, which are often weighty, Protestor Barry says "in its general grasp ot the situation, its intuition, and it* rare insight, this book is a great contribution." That, coming from Kings College, is a welcome sign of the broader and kindlier spirit that does exist in the English Church, pace the "Lhnrcli Times.''
