Sir,—l uotico in this morning & paper that the Railway Department intend to cbargo extra on the Lyltelton lino during tins contest, mid to givo the extra money so obtained to the Cintcrbury Yachting Association, less 41 per cent, collecting fcov Really, their generosity is to bo wondered at, or rather, their lack of generosity. Tho Association, desiring to make it easier for tho public t& get to Lyttclton during tho contest, asked the Railway Dxpartment to put on concession fares. Tho Railway Department, with the lack of public spirit for which it, along with other Departments, is notorious, instead of reducing the fares, has raised them. As a citizen of this City. I must protest against such a display of lack of public spirit. If tho Department persists in its attitude, the only thine for the people of Christchurch to do. if they want to see the races, is to go over the Sumner Hill, and let tho Department whistle for the money. — Yours, etc.. .-.-„,..
