SEEKING A SUITABLE TYRE. (B? CABLE—MBSB ASSOCIATION—COMMOBT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, January 16. • In connexion with the attempt to manufacture a motor-car tyre suitable for a car travelling 200 miles an hour, it is pointed out that at that speed anv one point of the tyre hits the ground thirty times every second, thus generating a heat which rubber has not yet withstood. Similarly every square inch of the troad experiences a force of four tons, tending to burst the tyre. Should a piece become detached it could fly through the air for half a mile. A recent trial necessitated a barricade to protect spectators. The tyre was subjected to the same strain as on a track and the experiment gave most successful results.
