TRADE TREATY.
CANADA AND NEW ZEALAND RUMOURS IN OTTAWA. (ST CASH—msS ASSOCIATION—COJHUOHT.) (KVitUUkS ASfi K.Z. CABL* ASSOCIATION.) (Received January 16th, 5.5 p.m.) OTTAWA, January 15. "Canada has five or six times tho best of tho deal in trade between our countries,' but I must say that with the assistance of tho Premier, Mr Mackenzie King, and tho Minister for Trade and Commerce, we have been able to set the ball rolling leading to an ittter-change of trade between Canada and New Zealand," Mr Coates declared when addressing the Canadian Club on Saturday, following conferences with the Government extending over two days. "They have made it possible for.me to go back home and arrange with our people to come back here and do better business with you than they were able to do in tho past," he asserted. It is understood hero that a Now Zealand delegation will come over in tho near future and negotiate a trado agreement. Mr CoStes did not touch on the question of Imperial defence, but in a passing reference to the possibility of another war, he said New Zealand would avoid war at all costs except at the cost of her National honour. Be believed normal trade would do much to prevent war, and he praised the work of the League of Nations Council in it's efforts to, give an accurate knowledge of World conditions, fie paid a hieh tribute to the work of the Premier, Mr Mackenzie King, at tho Imperial Conference.
