NEW BRIGHTON. The annual prize distribution took place at New Brighton yesterday afternoon. Tho prizes won were presented by the chairman, Mr H. A. Glasson. Tho annual concert and prize-giving of the Omihi School was* held in the hall on Tuesday evening. There was a good attendance of parents and friends. Mr H. L. Armitage presided. An excellent musical and elocutionary programme was provided. Prizes were distributed by Mr Armitage to every child attending the school, and special prizes were awarded as follows: —Neatest sowing in school, Ethel Harrison 1, Mabel Sloss 2; special prize for best sewing in primers, Dorothy Sloss; teacher's special prize for neat homework, Catherine Hall; best-kept garden, Jean Sloss; short-distance attendance, Douglas Alexander; long-distance attendance, Jack Sfackhouso; for gaining proficiency, Allerton Brooker; for gaining proficiency, teacher's prize, Jack Stackhouse. The Dux medal was awarded to Allerton Brooker. Proficiency certificates were awarded to Jack Stackhouse and Allerton Brooker. Mr Armitage expressed thanks to Mrs Brooker for the excellent manner in which she had prepared tho children for the concert. Supper was handed round and the hall was cleared for dancing.
