RICCARTON AFFAIRS.

MEETING OF COLNCIL, Affairs of interest to Kkcarton ratepayers were dealt with at last night's meeting of the Riccarton Borough Council. Present: The Mayor (Mr 11. S. S. Kyle, M.P.), Crs. H. \V. YvTse, H. Uudsell. T. M. Ford, R. H. Rankin, H. Manhire, J. F. Peters, A. F. Fisher, and A. E. Steere. On the recommendation of tie Finance Committee, accounts amounting to £1624 03 lid were passed tor payment. It, was stated in tho Electricity Committee'a report that three consumers had been connected to the supply: that a polo at the comer of Euston Plo-.-e and Wharenm road wn3 blown over by the nor'.-wester, and the damage done had been repaired, and that the amount received for electricity sold during June and July was £1338 3s 3d. Tho reports were adopted. The Cliiistchurch Draiuugc Board advised that, the work of layinsr the sewer in Mandeville street would 'commence within tkrec or four m... nthe.

In view of tho heavy expenditure by the Canterbury Progress League in providing literature for distribution during the Exhibition, nt the Canterbury Provincial Court the League, wrote stating that an appeal had been made that it. should nsk the '.ocal bodies it they would favour the. suggestion that they should giro their dividends received from tho Canterbury Provincial Committee of the Now Zealand and South Seas Exhibition, to the League. The Council agreed to hand back its dividend of £1 5s to the Canterbury Committee.

With reference to tho representations made to the Mayor by tho Borough Council requesting that the Railway Department pipe the drain at the intersection of Foster and Clarence streets, Riccarton, tho Minister for Railways informed Jfr Kyle that the matter had been carefully considered, but it regretted that the Department could not undertake the expenditure.
