CANTERBURY COLLEGE

MEETING OF BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

The Canterbury College Board of Governors met yesterday afternoon. Present: Moesrs 11. D .Acland (chairman), 0. T. Aschman, W. A. Banks, A. Brock, J. R. Cunningham, A. E. -Flower, C. D. Hardie, E. J. Howard, J. Studbolme, J. J. Dougall, tho Iton, ,G. J. Smith, M.L.C., tho Hon. L. M. Isitt, H.L.C., Dr. J. Hight, Dr. J. Guthrie, Dr. 0. Chilton, Miss E. A. Chaplin, and Mrs \V. H. Clark. The Museum and Library Committee reported that, in view o£. the need for improving the . financial resources of the Museum, a subcommittee had been appointed to go into the question #nd discuss ways and means, and to bring down a report to the mcoting of the Board. A letter ol thanks bad been sent to Mr T. Harris, of Ohakune, for assistance rendered to tho Museum in connexion with the preparation o£ exhibits of tho lifa liiptorjes of various insects. The question of the establishment of a degree course in fine arts in connexion with the Canterbury College School of Art #nd Canterbury College had been referred by the University Senate to the Board of Studies lit it» next meeting. Tho report was adopted. Tho High Schools 1 and Hostels Committee reported that they had approved planß for. the new Girls' High School at Avonside, and had forwarded them to tho Education Department for approval together with a request for authority to call tenders for erecting the building. They had written to, Mr M. Barak in appreciation, of his good- work on -behalf of liolleston Houso during his term of residence. t

Tlia College Committee recommended, and it was decided that an address to tlie University of Adelaide on the occasion of her jubileo as drafted by a special committee bo approved, and t-liat the address ba attested under the seal of the College and signed by the 'Hector on behalf of tho Collego staff and by the president of tlia Students' Association on behalf of the students, and that the Registrar be instructed to have the address suitably engrossed. Further, that Sir Douglas Mawson bo asked to represent the Collego and present the address at the jubille. It was decided that a letter of thanksbe sent to Professor Macmillan Brown, who had given his fee as lecturer (£2O) to the Wilding Memorial Lecture Fund. The committee reported having approved of an expenditure of £2O for apparatus for the hydraulics department of the School of Engineering. Air F. E. Hutchinson, of the School of Forestry, recently visited the cottage at Arthur's Pass and reported on its condition, gnd the committee had authorised certain essential repairs. The report was adopted.
