ROAD RACE. Under the • auspices of. -the . Southbrook Cycling Club, a road race over a. cotiree a' few chairs shoi-t of 15 J niije's. was run on Saturday afternoon, at SouiYorook, and attracted a large number of .spectators. The route taken abided : the distance into five Japs, with a &lraij?lit to the winning line of about a quarter of a milo, consequently. the spectators saw a godd deal of the race. The road was in very good condition, and t' l6 going- was fa3t throughout'.'the whole distance. ' Thero was twcnty-tHree competitors, and the handicapping, starting, and timekeeping wero well carried out by Mr W. J.Walter (president of tho Cycling Centre) and Mr P. C. Lucas (contra secretary). The prizes given wero £3, £2, and £l, with a gilinea for the' fastest time, given by Mr J. McGratb. - ■ . Following was the result:-C. Clark (3mm SOscc), 40min 25sec: 1; IV G. Vaughan (3nim , 30sec), 40min 26sec 2: C. G. Chapman (l'min 45sec), 38niin -4Ssec 3; A. J. Archer (Imm 45sec), 39min. 17sec l. : ~ ~ A. E. Porter and F. Wilton, the hunt men with 5 minutes" start, held the lead for a considerable portion of tho distance, and then had to 'give place to Clark and Vaughan, who entered tho last lap in the order named, with Chapman and Prebble close , up: The last-named, dropped back, however, and entering the-straight A. J. Archer was in fourth place with his brother X F Archer and F. J. '.Fidler close up. Clark crossed the tine two lengths in front of Vaughan, ' with Chaninan about four lengths away, leading A. J.
