BEAUTIFYING • SOCIETY MEETS

The executive of the Christchurch Beautifying Society, met yesterday afternoon. There were present: Mr A. D. Do'bson (chairman), Dr. C. Chilton, and Messrs R. B. Owen, S. HurstSeager, E. H. Andrews, and J. Stur-' rock.

Mr Owen brought up the question of finding work lor the unemployed, and it was decided to purchase plants which the Society would provide if the riverbanks were prepared by unemployed. . It was resolved to' invite ( applications for tho work of the. "Bricks memorial on the designs supplied by Mr Cecil Wood, as' soon as the exact site had been fixed by the Drainage Board's engineer. . . Tho question of improving, the triangle at the junction of. Montreal, Salisbury, and Victoria streets was mentioned by Mr Owen, but nothing, definite was discussed. . ~ '•• , Dr. Chilton-moved, that the Society ask that a. copy of the "Town Planning Bill" be submitted to it for perusal when presented to the House.— Carried.
