NEW BRIGHTON NOTES.

Tides. It will be high tide on the beach this morning at 10.26 and in the river at 11.53, and to-morrow at 11.29 and 12.53 respectively. The Churches. The services for to-morrow at St. Faith's Church, will be as follows: Holy Communion at S and 11 a.m., preacher Rev. Canon T. A. Hamilton, and in the North Beach schoolroom, conducted by Mr W»:iam ililes, layreader.' Tho services at Ihc Presbyterian Church- will be conducted at 11 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. by the Rev. J. S. Young, who .will preach on "Ordination of Throe Elders" and "Hearkening to the Word of the Channel of Divino Life." At .the Shirley Methodist Church the services will bo taken at 11 a.m. bv the Rev. E. D. Patchett, and at 6.30 by Mr H. Pield. R.A.0.8. The members of the local lodge of the R.A.0.8., with their lady friends, held a most enjoyable social function in the lodge room on Tuesday evening. Brethren from the Citv lodges were amongst those present. The W.P., Bro. F. Baker, presided. Cards were played and a musial progrjjmme was given, items being contributed by Mr and Mrs Gallacher, and Messrs Nicholson. Baker, Mcßurney, Hopkins, and others. Card Tourney and Social. On Wednesday evening tho members of tho New Brighton Cricket Club were ! entertained at a card- tourney and social evening by the Beresford Club. j the cricketers scoring 27 and the Beresford Club 26. Vocal and instrumental and elocutionary items Were given by Messrs Bernstein, Butterfield, MacLachlan, Do Roo, Taylor, Nuttall, the Beresford Banjo Band, and others. W.C.T.TJ. The members of the New Brighton branch of the W.C.T.TJ., held a well-at-tended conversazione on Thursday afternoon and evening, the president, Mrs H. Hall, being in the chair. In the afternoon an address was given by the Rev. J. S. Young (Presbyterian Church), and vocal numbers were contributed by Mcsdames R. Campbell, Sprosen, and Hewitt. In the evening a musical programme was submitted to an appreciative audience, items being given by Mesdames Campbell and Hewitt, tho Misses Raine, M. Langley, O.' Gibb, and B. Nelson, and Mr Reg. Campbell. A musical competition resulted in a tie between tho Misses Nelson and Grammar. A dialogue, "written by Miss B. Harband, outlinging tho methods and work of the W.C.T.U., was given by the officers of the Brighton branch. A vocal duet was contributed by Mesdames Campbell.and F. Mitchell, and a solo by Mrs Farmer. Building Permits. Thirteen building permits have been issued by the Borough Council to date, having an aggregate value of £3255, as compared with twenty-one issued over the same period in 1925, with an aggrogate value of £2834. Ladies' Rifle Club. At the weekly practice match of the local Ladies' Rifle Club, Mrs Buschl and Miss Park each won a point for the Senior Pendant with a score of 33 each. Mrs Nicholls won tho Junior Pendant with 28, and Mrs Hudson and Miss M. Diohl each won a point for the Tisdall Brooch. The best scores registered were: Mrs Buschl 33, 31, Miss Park 33, 31, Mrs McClelland 31, and Mrs Stokes 30. After the match, the first shoot of the second Club Competition was held. In the Association Match v. Lyttelton No. 2, the results were:—Bright m Ladies—Mrs Stokes 30, Mrs McClelland 32, Miss Park 31. Mrs Buschl 29, Mrs Ball 33, Mrs Hudson 29, Mrs Moses 32,. Miss Tillyshort 30. Total 246. Lyttelton (No. 2)-t-J. Torrens 27, F. Mills 29, W. 0. Smith 21, A. Andreasend 24,. E. Corkin 29, F. Coleman 23, R. Mutton 26, F. Adams 23. Total 202. The New Brighton ladies won by 44 points. Personal. . Mr and Mrs H. A. Bishop's son, Bob, who met with a serious motor accident ' recently, necessitating his immediate removal to Lewisham Hospital, has now returned to his home in Lonsdale street. Mr. A. W. Owles, who recently went through two slight operation's, is now up and about again.
