WOMEN AND THE THEATRE.
MR ST. JOHN ERVINE'S OPINION. (bt cablb—PHEsa association—corraioHT.) (AVSTKALIAX AND K.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, May 2. ' Mr St. John Ervine, speaking at Birmingham, declared that the English theatro was being ruined by women. A law should immediately be introduced forbidding tho admittance of any woman under 40, and the attendance of those older should bo' restricted to two yearly. Most of tho London audiences were women. A play which was daring always drew crowds of women—-ravenous-looking women clawing their way in. Mr Erviue concluded, amidst shouts and protests, by boldly asserting that women were inadequate companions for mon, who wero their intelj lectual superiors.
