The victims of the Cheltenham levelcrossing smash were: John OaiTC, Mrs Bertha Cairo, his wife, Clifton Caire, Mrs Clifton Caire, and Iverna Caire. The police failed to find the gatekeeper after the smash. They consider that the bodies are so mangled that he might be one of them. The fact that tho gates were open indicates that he was on duty shortly before the crash. Tli e engine-driver and fireman state that neither saw the car till they were ten yards from it, but it was then, too late to avert aix accident. They applied the brakes and pulled up within fifty yards. The engine and the two following cars were derailed.
