PLUNKET SOCIETY.

PADDY'S MARKET AND CONCERT. The Paddy's Market and concert held under the auspices of the Methven brunch of the Royal (New Zealand) Society- for the Health- of .Women'' and Children, took place in the Town Hall. In the afternoon a. yaried and large array of fancy "work, goods and produce, ' .etc. was on sale at the various stalls. The patronage accorded what is now an annual fixture was .moro than fully maintained. The generous demand both lotally and outside-for the goods displayed was much appreciated by the branch. Much credit is due to the ladies of the committee, and especially to Mesdames Hector Reid and Jno. Wiselly, the president and secretary respectively, for their untiring efforts in bringing the .function to such a successful conclusion'. The net result of the effort will add over £IOO to the funds. During the day several competitions wore held, the following being the winners:—For bos chocolates given by Mrs A. Allred, won by Miss R. McKendcy and Mr - J. O'Callaghan; stencilled cushion, given, by Messrs ■ Cooksoi. Bros., won by Miss E. Stephen; bos chocolates given by Mr M. A Stone, won by J£.' L. Chambers; shoiilder bacon, given by Mrs Campion (Bare Hill), won by Mr L. C. Anderson; doll, given by Mr W. Faircloujth (Addington), won by Mrs A. L. Hibbs; Doulton tray, etc., given by Reecos, Ltd., won by Mrs li. Grieve; handkerchiei sachet, given by Mrs Walter Dixon (Chiistchurch), won by Mr R. Ruddenklau; bottle of scent given by Messrs Kcmpthorne and I'rosser, Ltd., won by Mrs A. Laurence; three-tier wedding cake, given by Mrs Jno. Watson, won by • Miss Molly Duff; satin cushion given by Miss M. Drummond, won by Mrs J. McAnully; sheep skin mats, given by Canterbury Frozen Meat Co., won by Jtr3 Jno. McGirr; sheep guessing, won by Air J. W. M. Dart, who guessed correct weight, "irf the evening a successful concert was hold, the seating accommodation being taxed to its utmost capacity. Mr J. W. a !i > who acted as chairman, expressed thanks on behalf of the Society for the sp endid support accorded by tho public and also to the great effort the ladies of the Society s birach had put forth to bring the function to such a successful conclusion. He also thanked those ladies and gentlemen who came from Ashburton and the ladies of the Lyndhurst Concert Party for the splendid pro-s'-ammo presented.
