The Management Committee of the Canterbury Eusbv :Union met last there wire present: Messrs A, E. Mcl ba.l (chairman), C. S. McCnlly, J K. Moloney, C W Allard, S. F. Wilson, E. H. Cross, R. H. North. W. Britten, A. Barrett, E. V. Phillips, A. Duggan, -W. Maxwell, and Dr. W. S. Seed. An enquiry was received from the Asliburton Sub-Union as to whether the Union would arrange to have the Sub-Unions' conference held at an early date. Tbe chairman said that if the Sub-Union become » major union it would not partiripate in the conference, lhe I moil bad fixed April 30th as the dosing date for receiving remits for the con.fercn>\ the date of which would be arranged later. It was decided to miorni the Sub-Ln:on to this effect. . The secretary of the West Spreydon School Committee wrote, asking whether tho Union would favourably consider giving financia a«si«tance towards the laying-out of tho school "round for the playing of Rugby football. The letter stated that, the Union would quickly understand that tho committee in control of a new school was not in a good j financial position to carry out the improvements required, and any assistance given j would he greatly appreciated. It was the committee's wish to foster Rugby football among the boys. The letter was referred to the finance Committee for a. report. Mr M. G. Irwin, headmaster of the Bockenham School, wrote stating that two foothall grounds had been laid out, in Beckenham Park, adjoining the school. The school team used' one of the grounds, for which it had its own goal-posts. School matches were played on the grounds on Friday nightstwo" competition games at a time. As only the one ground was provided with goalposts, one game must wait till the other was finished. When the days became shorter, this would he rather an awkward arrangement. The letter asked whether the Union would assist, and stated th» sockets were already in the ground. It was decided to allow the matter to stand over for a week.

Special Match Wanted. A letter was received' from the secretary of the, Canterbury Commercial Travellers' Association, stating that at.a recent meeting of the General Committee, the question was u.scuesed with reference to launching a campaign to raise money .as a nucleus for a building fund. It was felt that provision must b« made for u, club house. A,campaign was being arranged, and the committee would be pleased' if the U.nion could see its way to set aside one Saturday afternoon during the season, and put on a special match to assist the Association. The chairman said were partly pledged'to assist the Association in view of past services. The letter was referred to the Finance Committee. An application was received from the Albion Club for 60 per cent,, of the gate takings at tho Christchurch-Albion match on April 10th. ■. It was decided, io authorise payment. The secretary of the Training College Students' Association applied for the use of Lancaster Park Oval oh Thursday, May 6th, for a match between Christchurch and Wellington Training Colleges. It was not intended to make any charge. The: use of the ground was granted. Schoolboys' Competition. The Schooleboys' Competition Committee reported that it had decided to recommend that Old Boys be invited to participate in the competition. 11 had been agreed that the schools be regrouped. A ; Pub-committee consisting of Messrs Cross, Davis, and jNorth was 'elected to' regroup. and allocate the schools to the various clubs. 1,1 Schools had been allotted to the clubs as follows: , ■ Albion—<W»st- Christchurch,' ' Addington, Riccarton, Whftrepui, 'Ly Helton street, Spreydon.

It. had been decided 'to recommend that such jerseys as were required to complete the eets be supplied by the Rugby Union,' any new .jerseys -to be-cotton ones. v • Junior' Advisory Board. • The Junior Advisory Board made the following recommendations: That the . lledpath. Shield be allocated for competition ' in' the 'under 18, 19," and 20 graaes;, tha,t, further dressing aocommodation be provided on the south side of the Polo Grounds, and that the Polo Club 'be approached .with reference' to' co-operation in improving the present accommodation at the pavilion, that the caretaker be in attendance at '.the . G.R.U. pavilion during playing' hours, owing to the fact, that junior players had had .property stolen and were very dubious about leaving their clothes in the pavilion;, that.the Technical; Old Boys Club be written to, 'advising that their goal posts were not! yet up, and requesting them to; attend, to the'matter by May Ist. ~ A discussion- took place on the conditions of the Bedpatli Shield," Mid it was decided to refer > the reportback l to the Board ..for further consideration, .the' chairman - of .the Competitions Committee to "confer with the Board.
