RANGIORA. Following is the draw for a match to be played to-morrow between the married and single ladies of the Rangiora Golf Club.—Mrs Reid v. Miss Palairet; Mrs Allen v. Miss J. The first of a series of fortnightly card socials, arranged by the Manchester Unity Lodge of Oddfellows for the winter months, was held in the Oddfellows' Hall on Monday evening. There was a large attendance and progressive euchre was played. IJie prize-winners were Mrs O. Holmes 1, Miss E. Miles 2, and Mrs H. M. Chappell 3; gentlemen, G. Dickson 1, C. Butters 2, and H. Hartley 3. The second sessipn of the class for English was held in the N.A.P.A. rooms on Monday eveni.ng. Despite counter-attractions, there was a good attendance. At the conclusion of the meeting the following officers were elected: —President, Mr R. Mcintosh; vice-president, Mr Robert Ball ; secretary and treasurer, Mr T. W. Ambrose; librarian, Mr E, C. Marris; committee, Mrs J. Clark, Miss Maurais, and Messrs Borland, Chambers, and Marris; reporters to local papers, Miss Murphy and Mr Gilletly. KAIAPOI. As a result of a requisition brought forward by the sports bodies and signed by 504 people who shop in the town, a llargely attended meeting of shopkeepers was hold at Kaiapoi last night, when it was decided that all shopkeepesr, other than those exempted by law, should revert to the Saturday halfholiday in lieu of Tuesday, as at present. - The Saturday half-holiday will commence as soon as the necessary arrangements with the Labour Department have ben completed. HANMER SPRINGS. A service of an impressivo nature was held on Sunday at 2.30 p.m., at the memorial to fallen men, and was attended by upwards of 100, including a number of ex-army men and nursing sisters. The preacher was tho Rev. J. Milburn Stewart, of Palmerston North, a pationt at tho Queen Mary Hospital. The service was concluded with a prayer and the singing of the National Anthem. Paterson, 1 up, 2. KAIKOURA. Anzac Day was celebrated by united service conducted by the Revs. Dunn and Saunders, the Orchestral Society supplying the music. Appropriate hymns were sung, and appealing addresses were delivered by Mr S. J. Mogridge and Rev. Mr Dunn. About 600 people attended the service, which was held in &no j?eather. A large number beautiful wreaths Was placed dn trie memorial. A collection was taken up in aid of wounded soldiers. Mr R. Gibson will probably be a candidate to represent the districts of Kaikoura and Cheviot on the Hospital Board. '

Interest is now being aroused in the approaching County CounciJ elections which take place next month. Candidates announced are:—Messrs James Boyd, David Boyd, P. Acton Adams, C. Pannell, P. Curran, 0. A, Johnston, C. E. Cholmondeley, T. Harle, G. D. Smith, G. Eaton, C. Eccles, J. J. McGrath, E. H. Workman, and Walter Gibson. Nine members are required. Eadio listeners-in received the Anzac services broadcast from Dunedin, Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne, some especially fine music being heard. The approach to the Hapuku Bridge, under construction by the Main Highways Board, is progressing satisfactorily, the fine weather experienced being favourable to good progress being made. The survey party at Stag and Spey is busy surveying the route of the Main Trunk line. A quantity of timber has arrived for the construction of the Oharwell Bridge, on the Inland road, and when the structure is completed it will prove a boon to those using the Kaikoura-Waiau road. OHOKA. At the annual householders' meeting of those interested, in the Ohoka hall,, the following were elected as a committee of management for the coming year:—Messrs C. R. Cooke (chairman), T. Kamsay (secretary), S. G. Dunlop, W. E. Knight, W. L. Orchard, G, Ward, F. Schroeder, A. W. Newton, and F. Pearce. The balance-sheet showed a satisfactory reduction of the overdraft, and on the strength of permanent revenue from the picture show proprietors, the meeting approved of the proposal tc enlarge the hall, details being left to the incoming committee. The annual meeting of the parishioners of the Anglican Church was very poorly attended. Before presenting his report, the vicar, Mr Mathias, referred feelingly to the lobs the parish had sustained through the death of Mrs James Kerr. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Vicar's warden, Mr C. H. Skinner; people's warden, Mr A. W. Newton; vestry, Mesdames B. Ward, A. W. Newton, Mr R. Ward, and the two wardens;' working committee: Mesdames Ward, Kimber, Aschen, Heron, Switalla, and the two wardens. LOBURN. A very pleasant gathering of relatives and friends of Mrs W. Fussell was held at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr S. Payne, Ladbrooks, recently. The occasion was the 86th i birthday of Mrs Fussell, who, with her late husband, arrived in New Zealand in 1864, and engaged in farming pursuits in the Tai Tapu district up to the time of their removal to Lower Hiccarton some few years ago. Despite her increasing years, Mrs Fussell still enjoys fairly good health and takes great interest in the progress of the district with which she has been associated with for nearly half a century. Among Mrs Fussell'g most prized possessions is a medal awarded by the late Queen Victoria, and presented to her by the then Governor, Lord Onslow, as a special prize in connexion with a model farm competition organised by the Canterbury A. and P. Association. SUMMERHILL. A very successful euchre drive and dance was held in the school recently. About 70 were present. The proceeds are to go towards purchasing a gramophone for the school children, and for Us© at socials. Euchre prim fell to Miss Stacey and Mr John Thompson. A signature competition was won by Mr J. Lowe. The packet dance fell to Miss Shaw and Mr K. McLauchlan,

OKAIN'S BAY. Bro. Eric Moore, N.G., presided over a good attendance of members at the 1 fortnightly meeting of tlie Loyal Hand of Friendship Lodge, M.U., L0.0.F., Correspondence was read from the district secretary regarding old members' contributions, investment of a further £IOO, National Provident Fund payments, and recognition badges. One sister declared off the sick fund and £3 13s 4d was passed for payment. It was decided to order a full set of the Lodge Odes, set to music. Arrangements were made to commence a series of euchre parties next week, two first and two second prizes to be provided, instead cf having consolation prizeß. Bro. J. Harris, P.G., offered to arrange a presentation to two brothers who had recently left the Bay. The N.G., in presenting Bro. A. Hartley, P.G., with a poaket wallet, expressed regret that he was leaving the district, as he was one of the mainstays of the Lodge, and wished him and Sister Hartley every success in their new home. On behalf of the Sisters, Sister 0. Mason, P.Q., presented Sister Hartley with a vanity bag, and referred to the help Sister Hartley had given at all social functions. * Both recipients suitably responded. It was decided to hold a questionbox next Lodge night. Before dispersing, supper was handed round. As a result of the mild weather, the milk supply is holding up well. The factory is still working every day, and the six tons of cheese required to be made yet, is well in sight now. Arrangements have been made to have the factory, outbuildings, and manager 's house paintod and renovjjted. LE BON'S BAY. A surprise party visited tho home of Mr and Mrs Len Bailey recently, and had a very enjoyable evening. Songs were sung by Mrs Bailey, Misses M. Gilbert, D. Mora, Messrs J. Woolridge and L. Bailey. Music for dancing was supplied by Mrs Bailey, Misses D. Mora, and M. Gilbert. Mr J. Gilbert acted as M.C. A recitation was given by Mr E. Guerney. Those present were:— Mesdames L. Bailey, T. Mora, A. Crotty have returned home after spending a few days' holiday with relatives in Geraldine.

Mrs J. Gracia and her sister, Miss E. Elliott, both of Le Bon'a Bay, are spending a week's holiday at the Dunedin Exhibition. Mr and Mrs J. Truman, Mr W. Dalglish, and Mr H. Dalglish, all of Le Bon's Bay have left on a visit to the Dunedin Exhibition. Messrs R. Gilbert, J. Gilbert, and C. Barker are spending a few days in Christohurch. GREENPARK. The annual meeting of parishioners of St. Mark's Church, Greenpark, was held in the church, the vicar presiding. Mr Yarr presented the financial statement which was as follows:—Total income £95 4s 6d, expenditure £74 18s, credit balance £2O 6s 6d. Mr E. Tarr was re-elected vicar's warden, and Mr S. W. Kimber parishioners' warden. The following cbmmittee were elected:—Misses M. Yftrr and Dawken, Messrs J. Stalker, T. Carter, A. Schroeder, Hugh Carr, sen., Hugh Oarr, jun., W. J. Dutton, Ellesmere Stalker. On Sunday, well-attended harvest thanksgiving and Anzac services were held. The church was artistically decorated with autumn flowers. A substantial gift of fruit and vegetables was sent to St. Saviour's Orphanage. SPRINGBURN. Miss M. "Wiggins, assistant mistress at the Springburn School, has been granted one month's leave of absence on account of ill-health. Miss McLennan ia at present relieving misMr Allan Syme is making good progress since his recent op&ation. A party of young folks motored to Ashhurton and caught the eariy excursion train to Dunedin on Saturday. They arrived baok .in Springburn on Sunday evening. Mr and Mrs G. MoFarlane have gone to Dunedin for a short holiday.

HORORATA. The annual smoke concert in connexion with the U.S.A. was well attended. Johnston's Orchestra, of Ohristchurch, supplied spirited muisio, and all Jiad an enjoyable time. Four prizes were given by Meedaines H. Oliver, H. H. Thome, Messrs Bruce and Cartwright, for the best conducted girls and boys while away visiting the Dunedin Exhibition, and the following were awarded the prizes:—May Fuller, Rewa Barrett, Charlie Thome, and Allan Oliver. Mrs A. J. Harris, who has been visiting the Dunedin Exhibition, returned home on Saturday. Mr and Mrs Kellaway, who have visited most places of interest on the West Coast, returned home on Saturday. Last Thursday afternoon,_ while fishing at Rakaia Gorge bridge, Mr F. 8. Barrett had the luok to land a 15|lb quinnat salmon. Mr A. J. Harris left to visit the Exhibition yesterday. The full night dance promoted by the Hall Committee last week. -■ was a great success, visitors being drawn from all the surrounding districts, and a very fair financial. success was achieved. Knight's Jazz Band provided music that still further enhanced their reputation in the district, and Mr Harman acted as M.C. TAI TAPU. At a meeting held in the Tai Tapu hall, it was decided to hold weekly euchre tournaments in aid of the School funds. The following committee was elected: —Mesdames Garnett, Plumridge, Branthwaite, Larcombe, Dowker, and Miss Steinmetz, Messrs Dowker, Nimmo, Walls, and Branthwaite. The opening night will be on Tuesday. LAKESIDE. The EUesmere Gun Club held a tenbird clay match at Lakeside for a trophy given by Messrs Hammond and Turner, twelve shooters competing. F. Graham, D. McGregor, and J. Winchester, with all on, tied, and in the shoot-off F. Graham missed his fifth and J. Winchester his twentieth bird, leaving D. McGregor the winner. J, Winchester took first money ih the accompanying sweep, F. Graham second money, and D. Reid, who put nine on. third. After the match a number of sweeps were fired. Mr D. I.
