LYTTELTON NEWS.

Lantern Lecture. At the Excelsior Hall to-night, the Rev. F. Guise Brittan will give what should prove a most interesting lecture on "Old Lyttelton." Tha lecture will be illustrated with lantern slides made from some rare old photographs. Y.W.C.A. The Y.W.C.A. rooms in Norwich quay were crowded last evening with members and supporters of the branch in Lyttelton, who met to welcome Miss Edith Johnstone, who haß been appointed leader and organiser of the Lyttelton branch, in succession to Miss Ruth Jarvis. The Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton) presided. Those present included Mrs G. Bow ron, president of the Christchurch Centre of tho Y.W.C.A., and Mrs J. T. Norton, president of the Lyttelton branch. In welcoming Miss Johnstone," the Mayor mentioned that Miss Jarvis had set a very high standard in the work she had carried out among the girls in Lyttelton. He had no doubt that Miss Johnstone would maintain that standard. The work among the girls was most valuable, and ho wished her every success.

Mrs G. Bowron g.ivo an interesting address on the work of the Association, and also outlined the work carried out at the Convention held at Warrington, near Duncdin, in February last. In thanking those present for their welcome, Hiss Johnstone said she had met Miss Jarvls in Sydney, and had conferred with her, particularly in regard to the Lyttelton branch. The speaker had taken copious notes on the work which should be of great holp to her. She felt it a great privilege to work among the girls. The Y.W.O.A. was tho only institution, she believed, which was trying to understand the girl of tho present day. Tho past few years had seen great changes' in the social life of young girls. In years gone by the girls were taught and sheltered in their own homes, but now most girls had to go out in tlie world and earn their living. ' The Y.W.C.A., by its branches, its hostels, and its cafeterias, was aiming to keep in touch with these girls at all times. During the evening songs, choruses, and drill were given by tho different girls' clubs.

Billiards. C. Henderson won the Lyttelton Club's weekly flying fifty billiards tournament last evening, defeating Captain Francis in the final. Harbour Light Theatre. "The Sunshine Trail," starring Douglas McLean, will be repeated at tho Harbour Light Theatre to-night, together with a comedy. Urban Chat, and the fourth episode of "Wolves of the North." To-morrow "The Call of Courage," featuring Art Acord, will be screened. The supporting programme includes two comedies and a gazette. The English Futurists, the Cabaret Revue Company which waß so enthusiastically received on their first appearance at the Harbour Light Theatre a few weeks ago, will make a return visit on Friday night, In a complete change of programme. This company, which numbers sixteen artists, present a pot pourri of the latest songs, dances potted plays, and song scenas, into which is worked planty of clean comedy. The reserve plan for the Futurists is now open at Hatton's.
