Permission was granted at jesteiday's meeting of the Canterbury College Board of Governors'to erect a brass tablet in the College Hall to the memory of the late James Hay, M.A , LL.B. Mr Hay was an early student of Canterbury College, gaining scholarships in Latin and Greek, and taking' an M.A. degree in 1878-79 with double first-class honours in Latin and French. In 1831 he was one of the first two to gain an LL.B., the other being Dr. F. Fitehett. He was a member of the University Senate from 1888 to the time of his death in 1911*
