OPENING NEXT FRIDAY. Th» Competitions Festival season ha» again come round, and it is expected that the attractions offered to tho public will be better thin-ever. Each succeeding year sees an improvement in the standard of work, and an extension of the number and variety of the chases. The opening will take place in the Caledonian Hall, where in the evening will be staged the finals of the classes heard during tiie day. Many clever young performers have entered, and in the senior classes the competitors include capable performers from Christchurch and other cities. The musical and elocutionary classes are well filled, and excellent recitals will be the rule for the evening sessions. Arrangements have been made for the sale of season tickets. The fest : val will extend over three weeks, during which thero will be morning, afternoon,. and evening sessions.
