DEATH BY DROWNING.

The inquest into the death, of James Edward Ausley was concluded on Saturday, before the Coroner, Mr H. A. Young. Deceased was a single man, aged 55, who lived at 63 George street, New Brighton. His body had been recovered from the Avon on the morning of April 10th. Lawrence Treleaven, aged 11, stated that whilo playing near the tramway bridge he saw the body lying in the water. He stopped a man driving a motor-car, and this man informed th« police. Robert Black Mclveown said that ho did not know Atisiev by name. Deceased visited the hotel where witness worked, on the previous afternoon and drank some liquor. When deceased left the hotel he was perfectly sober. Constable J. Hislop, of Xew Brighton, gave evidence ot the finding of the, body at 11.00 a.m. in the river at. New Brighton. He removed the body to the morgue. A watch found on tho body had stopped at 7.31. After leaving the hotel, deceased would have to paes the place where the body was found, to get to his home. There were some seats near that part of the river, and anyone nvho had been dozing on them might easily fyave fallen into tho river. A verdict was returned that Artsley was found drowned in the Avon, at New Brighton, on April 10th. There was no evidence to show how lie got into the river, but all tho circtim-' stances pointed to. accidental death.
