The old-fashioned bucket dredge was quite unsuitable; it had neither the power nor the ability to reach the gold where it lies in large quantities—in the crevices. The only way this gold can be reached is with the modern suction dredge. The Shotover Consolidated, Limited, is a new Company being formed to properly dredge nine miles of the richest claims. The latest scientific high-powered siiction dredge (as illustrated above) will be used. The promoters have already taken up 17,000 contributing shares, for which they have paid in cash, thereby ensuring the flotation of the Company. Only 28,000 £1 shares are available to the public.
