NATION'S HEALTH.
INSURANCE FUND. BENEFITS INCREASED. (BT CASUS—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTBALXAX ASD X.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received April 23rd, 7.5 p.m.) ~ LONDON, April 22. The House of Commons read the Economy jßill for the third time, and passed it by 338 votes to 138. Mr J. H. Thomas, summing up for the Opposition, accused the Government, under the guise of economy, ef robbing 16,000,000 insured persons of money intended to provide additional benefita. Mr Winston Churchill, in closing the debate, pointed out the Government was providing £120,000,000 for social services, which was £9,000,000 more than the Labour Government had deemed sufficient. The proposed economies were a few lucky survivors of an immense number of proposals, of which the majority had been rejected after examination. The debate showed the utter unreality of all talk about economy by Liberals and Labourites. Such was the astounding prosperity of the National Health Insurance Fund that j an additional halfpenny of contribution, even after the economies had been effected, would enable more than double the present benefits to be given.
