' Yesterday Mr Archer was the guest of the headmaster, Mr W. A. Rumbold and the teachers at morning tea. On behalf of the teaching staff Mr Rumbold thanked Mr Archer for the interest taken by him in the teachers and the scholars.

There was a gathering at the Trades Hall yesterday afternoon oi trade union secretaries, and the staffs of Trades Hall, to bid farewell to Mr Chris Bcnn, who leaves this evening for Welling* ton, en route for San Franeisco, by the; Tahiti. Amongst those present were the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer). Mr E. J. Howard, M.P„ Mr D.' G. Sullivan, M.P., Mr T. H. Armstrong, M.P., and Mr W. J. Hunter, president of, the Canterbury District Law Society. Mr l'J. Pnrlanc, who presided, presented Mr Ronn with a gold-mounted fountain pen and a gold pencil, as a parting gift from those present. ■
