He is bringing with him the four yearlings he purchased during his trip to the Commonwealth, Count Cavour has had a let up in his work, and is notv enjoying a run in the paddock. Los Ambus showed signs of lameness after being worked at Riccarton yesterday morning. Sir Rose Wry, winner of list year's Great Northern Steeplechase, was a starter in tho Waipapakauri Cup on ■ Thursday, but did not finish in the placed division. . TROTTING NOTES. A special horse train will leave Christchurch at 6.30 a.m. to-day, carrying horses engaged at tho Ashburton T.C's Autumn Meeting. D. Warren has Ayr, Sea Pearl, Latona, Gibraltar, Nantw ich, aud Kemptou engaged. They are all useful, and he should win some of tho stake money. Fight Ever will be J. J. Keuncrley's sole representative. The Australianbred gelding has been well supported more than once, but has not won a race since he came to New Zealand. Amongst the horses that raced at the EHeamerc County T.C's Annual Meeting hist Saturday and will be seen in commission at Ashburton to-dav are Pomterwood, Red Bell, Peter Felix, The Thistle, Jingal. Dillon Gold, Honour Bright, Zelica, Wee Gus, and Acre. 0. E. Hooper's team is likely to include Locanda Child, Trenand, Wharepiana, and Four Bells. The last-named is favourite lor the Farewell Handicap. W. J. Tomkinson will pilot Lady Alva, Jingal, and Billy Whizz, but they are not a very high-class trio. Daphne Wildwood, Some Jazz, and Why Worry are the only horses racing at the fixture that are trained in the North Island, where they havo raced prominently, and their display will be watched with interest. Silk Thread, Biugen I.ad, and Dusky Pointer will be driven by D. Withers, who is the leading reinsman for the present season. Doubtless they will have plenty of friends. Judge Hancock und Audoiuinion arc tho only straight-out trotters engaged in tho Durbar Handicap: Both are good horses, but may find the pace too fast in the early stages. The three-year-old Henry Logan has an injured kneo and may not bo seen at his best to-day. Honour Bright is very fast and has only to bo patiently handled to see- out a mile and a quarter. Bing Boy, Wharepiana, Trenand, Fight Ever. Judge Hancock, Harold Burwood, and Talent have been accepted for in both the Durbar and Rakaia Handicaps. Brigand has a great private reputation arid he has only to act up to it to add interest to the Utility Handicap. Coleno Pointer and Pan Yan are trained by J. Grico, who has produced a few good ones during recent years. Tho Southland-bred mare Lady Alva, who figures in the Allenton Handicap, will race in the interest of Mr G. J. Barton for the ..first time. Talent is on the top of his form, while the big track will favour both Countryman and Event, but their task is a hard one. Deanwood, who dead-heated with Auto Machine at the Australian T.C's Meeting early in the month, has been purchased by P. Riddle. W. J. Tomkinson intends taking Minton Derby to Forbury- Park to attempt to lower the mile track record of 2.7 2-5. ASHBURTON T.C. AUTUMN. The Ashburton Trotting Club will hold its Autumn Meeting on the Ashbujtdri racecourse to-day, and the pros•pects of'a successful day's racing looks bright. The acceptances arc good, and as the majority of tho horses engaged ore woll-seaeoned, the various, events tire not likely, to be won without a keen struggle. With the recent fine . weather,, the course is in first-class order, and some improved times are likely to be registered. There will be two special ..passenger trains at 9.20 a.m.,.and 9.3 C a.m., and the first race will start at 11.30 a.m. * Fifteen well-performed horses stand their ground in the Durbnr Handicap, and with a short limit of 72yds, the final issue is open. Sea Pearl promises to start favourite, and should run well, while Silk Thread, Becky Logan, and Cardinal Logan have possibilities. Others who may have an interest in the minor events are Locanda Child, Audalion,i Kempton, Fairlight, Bon Pang, Verb's Doll, Colene Pointer, Dillon Gold, Sea Queen, Nelson Ata, Berenice, Tommy Direct, Four Bells') and Shine Soon.
