CUPID'S COURIERS.

MESSAGE ON AN EGG. (from otte own cobbespondent.) SYDNEY, April 7. Cupid's darts are carried by strange messengers at times. Into Sussex street —the pivotal point of Sydney's produce trade, and not what might be termed altogether a place of , poetic atmofephere —there came a day or two ago a crate of eggs from Manning River/ New South Wales. About that there was nothing extraordinary, for old Sussex street is the home of the egg trade, but what was extraordinary was the fact that when the eggs were being sorted from the crate one was found with an inscription on it in a woman's neat handwriting. It told of a young lady who wanted to correspond with a young man not over 18, and gave a young woman's address. It also contained a request for the photographs of those who got into touch with the lady. The storeman who discovered the egg is not eligible—he is 26 and married —but he has proclaimed the message to the public. It has brought a new throb and glamour into the commercial and materialistic world of Sussex street.

It reminds one of the letter that the Lord Mayor (Alderman Stokes), who incidentally is a bachelor, received from a Scottish lassie, telling him of her desire to .get into touch with an Australian farmer who might be for a young, healthy, resourceful wife. In reply to the letter, which was published, the Lord Mayor has received quite a 'sheaf of correspondence. One aspirant for the lady's hand stated that he Weighed 14 stone, stood 6fb lin in height, and felt in every way eligible. The Lord Mayor has forwarded to the Scottish lassie the names and addresses of those who aspiro to her hand.
