BOROUGH COUNCILS.

RANGIORA. The fqrtnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held last night. The Major (Mr R. Mcintosh) presided, and there were also present Crs. F. Horrell, R. Bailer, c. S. Ayers, J. Lindon, I. M. Allen, J, Cntherwood, and J. F. Feron. Leave of absence ■was granted to Cr. C, I. Jennings. It was resolved to approve of the Joint Committees' recommendation that the Premier Supply Company's account for two cinematograph machines, amounting to £386 7s (id, be passed for payment. Tho recommendation of the Finance Committee, that accounts amounting to £ll2O 8s be passed for payment, -was approved. The Lands and Survey Department wrote offering to provide another Bite for the borough pound in lieu of the present site. It was resolved to reply that the present Council was of opinion that tho present pound site could not be improved upon. The Council, however, would be prepared to consider favourably a suitable exchange, subject to the Council's approval, provided the Department removed the present pound free of all costs. An application from Mrs Bryant for a building permit for » shed was not granted. The Town Clerk reported that six new consumers had been connected witli the electric supply. In the gas department, 45 tons scwt of coal were used, producing 508,000 cubic feet of gas, showing 12.83G cubic feet per ton of coal. The offer (it tho Mayor to present a New Zealand flag for the new town hall was accepted. The Mayor reported that tho new hall was almost completed, and suggested that the opening ceremony should take place on Thursday, May 27th, at 2.30 p.m., and that the festival choir concert be held in the evening.—The suggestion was agreed to. It was decided to invito the Prime Jlinister or one of his colleagues to attend the ceremony. It was resolved to hold a public meeting in the new hall on May 31st, to which all ratepayers would be specially invited, when the loan proposal of £72,000 for a water and drainage scheme for the borough would be placed before them. Authority was given the Town Clerk to make a charge of £5 per night for the hire of the hall until the Hall Committee had arranged their schedule of charges. The application of Mr Williamson, contractor for the hall, for a further progress payment of £6OO, was granted.
