MEETING OF COUNCIL. The Heathcote County Council met lastnight, Or. C. Flavell occupying the chair.. Also present were: Crs. A. H. Adams, W. Kerr, J. H. Mooro, B. Riley, and W. W. Scarff. ■ • ~ , , i i The State Advances Department advised that the Council's application for an increase in intereßt on the Avonside loan was receiving attention. "They're • very slow over this matter," remarked the chairman, "they know the money market,"The Lands Department advised that the Minister had approved of.Renerye 112, Cashmere being - charged to recreation purposes, and enquirod whether the Council was prepared to accept an appointment as a Domain Board, and. to submit a suitable name for sanie. It was decided to such appointment and suggest as a name "Cashmere Domain." The Tramway Board wrote stating that the Board was disposed to put"its track down' on Pages road in bitumen, but before doing so would like to know whether the Council would follow up_ And make the rest t of the road in good order. It vns decided to advise the Board that the Council was petitioning to have the road declared a main highway. The- Christchurch City Council advised that the Barrington street Bridge was in -an'.unsatisfactory condition, and they .considered it necessary to redeck tho bridge. The estimated coßt was £72, and hs the' Heathcote' Council was liable for part of the cost, the City Council wished to know_ whether they were agreeable to the work being _ done._ It was. decided to agree to the repairs, - but with a recommendation that the question of sheeting the bridge with asphalt should be investigated. . ■ - Tbe Canterbury Progress League wrote asking whether the Council ■ would like to have a conference tn consider an Utago Local Bodies' resolution in reference to the Main Highways Act. It was decided to advise the League that the Council fav ourable to a conference o£ Group 14 bodies b8 The Hall Committee requested that the Council should form a substantial footway from the road to the rear of the hall. Decided to attend to the ™»«er. Permission was granted Mrs D. H. Faulk ner to remove forward the present fence fronting her property at Opawa road, so as to conform with the other fences. The New Zealand Railways applied for a rebate of £lB on Valley water flushes owing to a faultv meter. The request was refused on account of a discrepancy in the Kailwavs' check-meter. ... It was decided that the charges for electricity in Mount Pleasant and Heathcote Valley be reduced from 6d to 5d per unit.
