KNOCKED DOWN BY BUS.
* SMALL CHILD SERIOUSLY INJURED. The three-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs L. J. Thwaiteß, of tho schoolhouse, Lincoln, met with very serious injuries, through coming into contact with a bus last week. One bus, bound from Christchurch to Southbridge, was pulled up on the left-hand side of tho road, opposite Mr Thwaites's residence, tc allow passengers (including Mrs Thwaites's sister and the child) to alight. The little girl rushed in front of the staftding bus, and across the road, in the path of a setcrad bus. The driver swerved in an endeavour to avoid the child, but the distance was too short, as the ffOrtt of the incoming bus was practically level with the tail of the standing bus, when the child rushed out. Although the driver pulled up in a few yards, the Bide. of tho bus stfuck the child and threw her heavily On the roadway. Dr. E. Ji Cooke was summoned, and he ordered the child's retooVal to the Christchurch Hospital. . It was found that besides .sustaining a broken leg, the child's Bkull had been, fractured. Au operation was performed immediately. The patient's con* dition is still serious.
