PREHISTORIC SKULL.
AUSTRALIAN DISCOVERY CRITICISED. —i— i (tit CABtB-*-2KRS9B ASSOCtATIOK—COrTUOHT.) (AtfSTBAIJA'W AHS K.S. CABtIB ASSOOIATIOK.) LONDON, April 21. Begirding the reported recent discovery by Professor Mackenzie, at Cohuna, near Murray «*w, of » **&& ante-dat-ing any kno<wn human remains, Dr. Grafton Elliot Smith, the famous anthropologist, says that final judgment depends on the evidence provided by Profess&r Mackenzie; but he is not inclined to think that there is the remotest possibility of anything found in Australia being as old as the Piltdovm skull. Piltdown man was living in Europe hundreds of thousands of years before human beings could have reached Australia. It seemed incredible that anything approaching the age of the Piltdown man could be fopnd in Australia, Where the eldest human remains probably were not more than 4000 or 5000 years old. Professor Mackenzie was highly <sempetent, but at the same time this was a rather large order to swallow.
