BURNT IN EFFIGY.
BELGIAN SOCIALISTS AND MUSSOLINI. CRISIS PRECIPITATED. tgt CABKB—*RESS A3SOaATIOK—COPYSIGHT.) ("the tmm.") LONDON, April 22. The Brussels correspondent of "The Times" states that Baron RobinJacquemyns, Minister of the Interior, demanded an immediate report on an incident arising from a Socialist antiFascist meeting at La Louvicre, a } small industrial town, where the audience burned an effigy of Signor Mussolini with which the Socialists previously had paraded the streets. The 5 effigy was dressed in black witb a mili--5 tary helmet, and the nose was banl daged. r It is alleged that the police did not interfere becauso the Mayor of La Louviere is a Socialist. s If the enquiry establishes tho accuracy of the story, Baron Jacquemyns , will demand that the participators be j punished, but as his Socialist colleagues in the Cabinet are unlikely to support drastic action, Baron Jacquemyns will probably resign. , Meanwhile the Italian Ambassador has been summoned to Borne. i AN APOLOGY. i ___ 1 (Sidney "Bon" Stewci.) (Received April 23rd, 1.20 a.m.) BRUSSELS, April 22. The Government has apologised to 1 Signor Mussolini for the effigy incident. • =
