A valuable cow \vaß lost recently by Mr . Cteorge Ward, of Ohaupdi, Temuka. through its being electro* cuted. At milking time it was found that the electric current was cut off and the milking plant was worked by an emergency petrol engine. The owner's attention wan attracted by loud bellowing from the cows and, on investigating, he found a high tension wire had fallen ovdr the 'Wife fence. One cow- had been killed instantaneously and was lying across the fence, thus conveying the .current to the earth, while another had its foot in contact with the bottom wirj) and was unable to movo. The cnttlo had gone round the fence to drink, and the whole of. the fencing around the paddock was charged witli the current, the connexion being made et the gateways by a strand of barbed wiro running from post to post.
