Burns, discovered on the body ,of Thomas Dodge (70), of South -liehd. Indiana, by. an undertaker who was preparing jfc for burial, caused authorities to start an investigation. They suw a possibility that Dodge, who Was a wealthy real estate broker, had been tortured to death by' persons who sought access to the safe in his modest room where be lived alouo, cooking his own .meals and hoarding his valuables.' The safe was found locked. The body was fully clothed when found, but the clothing was not burned. Coroner Crumpaker said the man's hands were so seared that it would have- been impossible for him to have dressed himself. Other burns indicated that he had been hold over a fire.
