ENOUGH IMMIGRANTS.
1 WEMBLEY COMMISSIONER'S WARNING. (PEEBS ASBOCUTIOK TZtSQ&UC.) WELLINGTON, AprU 21. The suitability of immigrants was a topic discussed at the Chamber of Commerce dinner to-night. Sir Alex. Roberts, New Zealand's Wembley Commissioner, thought that experienced New Zealanders were needed for farmers instead of labourers from England, who were inclined to work mechanically. It was going to do us harm to introduce an excess of labour into the Dominion. If all the migrants were not absorbed, but became unemployed, the news would quickly travel Home. Sir Alex. Robert* added that domestic servants could be obtained in plenty by extensive propaganda. The Minister, the Hon. W. Nosworthy, agreed that an excess of immigrants would mean trouble if another slump came.
