Gagged, beaten -with hose and strung up by his heels to a rafter because he refused to admit being a "homebreaker," was the story told by Charles Howard, Fifth street, Berkeley, California. His narrative resulted in the holding of Candido A. Ferry and Lawrence E. Price on charges of carrying and assaulting with deadly weapons. Reports to the police said that Ferry and Price went to Howard's home aud accused him of knowing the whereabouts of Ferry's wife. Ferry drow a gun, but Price talked him out (of its use. "When Howard donied the charge, he was strung up by his heels, struck with pieces of hose, and finally admitted Mrs Ferry was with his sister, Miss Mae Howard, at Alameda.
