CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
OPENING OF 1926 SEASON. The Canterbury Caledonian Society's opening night for the 1926 season took place on Monday evening at the Caledonian.Hall. There was a large attendance of members and friends, some 600 peofje being present. The president, Mr Charles S. Thomas, occupied the chair, and waa supported by Messrs It. S. Rankin, A. McKenzie, and G-. Sey (vice-president s). Mr Thomas extended a heirty welcome to those present, and appealed to the members to induce their friends to become members of the Society. He also offered his congratulations to the Society's Pipe Band upon th« excellent performance given by them at the recent contest in Dunedin. During the evening four nominations were received for membership. The programme for the evening was arranged by the president, Mr C. S. Thomas, and Mr A. McKenzie (vice-president), and the following contributed items:—Selections by the Pipe Band under Pipe Major J. Shananan, and Drum Major W. Ross; vccal items by Miss Harris, Messrs T. Charters, D. Bishop, D. McGill, and A. McDonald* recitation by Miss Annie Gale; pianoforte duets by Misses Chapman and Leybourn, and Miss Daisy Lee and Master George Lee; musical monologue by Miss A. Chapman; conjuring turn by Mr Hubbard; Gillie Gallium, Hies Violet (Robertson; Highland Fling, Mr A. Caldow; Seann Triubhais, Miss Doris Bell; Irish . Reel, Messrs N. Cbisholm, M. Neate, K. Walton, and B. Bruce;' Highland Reel, Misses D. Caldow, J.-Staunton, D. Hall, and D. Bell. Accompanists for the evening were Mrs A. E. Smith and Mies M. Cox. After the concert a short dance followed, the music being provided by Mrs A. E. Smith (piano), and Mr Frye (violin).
