MAGISTRATE'S COURT. (SPUCJAI, TO "THS PBI8S.") GREYMOUTH, April 20. At a sitting of the Greymouth Magistrate's Court to-day, Mr W. Mcldrum, S.M., presided. Thomas Gillolly proceeded against Mrs Elizabeth Robertson, claiming £2 5s for-ground rent and possession of a tenement at Kunanga. An order was made for possession in a fortnight. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £2 os, with costs. At the Hokitika Magistrate's Court this nioruing, before Messrs Evans and Benjamin, Justices, tho police charged John Woods with being drunk and with using obscene language in Sale street vesterday afternoon. Defendant pleaded guilty to both charges, and elected to be dealt with summarily. He was. convicted on both charges, and sentenced to seven (lavs' on tho latter. A prohibition order was also issued against him. Grey Hospital Board. At a special meeting of the Grey Hospital Board to consider the estimates for 1926-27, the following members were present: —Messrs J. W. Hannan (chairman), J. Irvine, W. Pullin, J. Lamberton, W. H. Parfitt, E. Ashton, and J. Brislane. The secretary presented a statement of the estimates for the incoming year, showing also estimatos and actual receipts and oxpondituro for last yoar. Details wore as follows: —Estimated receipts: Maintenance £369 7s lid, subsidy on maintenance £4297 4s 7d, voluntary contributions £SOO, subsidy on ditto £SO2 15s lOd, patients' payments £SOOO, charitable aid recoveries £I2OO, rent £lO, unclassified £IOO, maintenance levies £7315 6s Bd, subsidies £9509 18s [)d. Expenditure: Hospital maintenance £17,500; charitable aid, indoor £4O, outdoor £2000; administration £BOO, payments to other Boards £SOO, rent £l5O, interest on loan £12,000, miscellaneous £142 13s lOcl. Tho estimates were approved. Medal Winners. The presentation of the Seddon and Watkius Medals was made this morning by the Mayor (Mr W. H. Parfitt). Tho winners were Patrick Blanchfield (Marist School), Seddon Medal; Olive Flewollyn (Main School), Seddon Modal; Noelline Travo -(Main School), Watkins Medal. Epidemic of Mumps. Owing to an epidemic of mumps among tho pupils, tho Kunanga State School lias been closed sinco the Easter vacation. The epidemic is still prevalent in the mining township, and many adults arc affected. Tho Kunanga School Committee, at n meeting last evening, decided to close the school for anothor weok. Sympathy with Mussolini. Tho Consular Agent for Italy, Mr Gerald Perotti, forwarded tho following cablegram to the Italian Consul-General in Melbourne on April 12th: —"Pleaßo convey deepest sympathy-of the Greymouth Circolo Italiano to his Excellency Signor Mussolini in his narrow escape. Tho Circolo trusts ho will make a speedy recovery." Yesterday Mr Perotti received tho following reply:— "I thank you and tho members of tlve Circolo Italiano for their patriotic expression of sympathy, and have forwarded your cable on to his Excellency in Rome." Grey School Committee. An election for the Greymouth Main School Committee is not necessary, as only the required number of nominations have been received. The new. committee will comprise the following: Megsrs J. Tennent, H. Herring, R. Barrowman, P. Beck, R. J. Williams, J. Lamberton, W.' Scott, W. H. Parfitt, and'A. V. Oliver. Westlaod Schools' Excursion. A party of 30 Westland school-chil-dren leave for Dunedin on Saturday next, Btopping at Christchurch over the Sunday. The party returns to Hokitika on May Ist. Mr W. S. Pratt, organising teacher, will be in charge, with Mrs B. Lynn and Miss Stephens as assistants. Stockton Mine. The Stocktoh mine was again idle yesterday owing to a dispute in connexion with the locomotives. It is I understood that the trouble has been settled, and the mine was expected to resume to-day. Personal. Mr John Menzies, Mayor of Westport, contemplates resigning the office at the end of the present month, on account of increasing private business. Mr Jolm Nicol, of the Christchurch Technical College, has accepted the position of science and mathematics master on the staff of the Westport Technical High School. Mr L. J. Rasmussen, who has been visiting his parents at 'Westport, left for Christchurch to-day. Mr J. Tennent left to-day for Wellington, and will return to Greymouth at the end of this week. Mr P. Urquhart, manager of the National Bank at Hokitika, was a passenger by to-day'B express for Christchurch. Mr and Mrs W. Cochrane, accompanied by their daughter, Mrs P. Smith, left to-day for Christchurch and Auckland. Mr W. Ritchie, of the Hokitika P. and T. office, has been transferred to Takaka, for which place he left to-day. Mrs T. Auton, of Cobden, left this morning for Waihi, North Island, on a viist to her brother, Mr Thoß. Morgan. Mr F. Jones, of the staff of Macky, Logan, Ltd., left to-day on transfer to Wellington. Messrs F. W. Parkinson and J. W. Greenslade left to-day for Christchurch and Dunedin. The death occurred at Sydney on Friday of Mrs Webb, formerly Miss Maud Armstrong, of Reefton, aged 44 years. The late Mrs Webb was the second daughter of Mrs G. Woods, of Reefton, and Mrs T. Mitchell, Blenheim, and Mrs H. Moss, Christchurch, are sisters. Mrs H. Wicken, of Reefton, is visiting Dunedin. Mrs A. Richardson and Miss N. I Richardson (Runanga) left to-day for ' Christchurch, en route to Australia on holiday. Mr W. Mullaney, of the Tailiape railway staff, who has been visiting Greymouth, left on his return north to-day. Mr R. W. Webster, of the railways loco, staff, left to-day for Dunedin on holiday.
