OBITUARY.
MR W. CAREY HILL. Tie late Mr William Oner WB, whose death at Cannes, France, we* announced on Saturday, wae in Ma eighty-fourth year, hiring been bom in Coventry, England, en Deosmbsr 12th, 1842. Be came to New Zoaland at a young man of twenty, arriving in Auckland in 1862. The following year he took part in the Maori War; being attached to the Waikato Regiment. Mr Carey Hill subsequently came to Christchurch some 60 years ago and joined the old firm of 8. Manning and Company; When this company was converted into a limited liability company in 1882. Mr Carey H3l was ag-. pointed manager, retaining that position until about 1920, when ha joined the Board as a director. He waa widely known and greatly respected. His widow (for whom much sympathy will be felt) was for many years hoanrary secretary of the ChrisUiKPon branch of the Victoria League.
