A TIME FOR PRUDENCE.
PRIME MINISTER'S ADVICE.
(SPICUL TO "THE MESS.") WELLINGTON, April 19. The Prime Minister said to-day tliat though the information was not complete, the indications were that the balance for the trade year would be against us. "It is obvious," he says, <; that if our imports exceed our exports, we shall have to draw in somewhere)." He does not consider that there is the slightest need.for alarm, but he considers that the Government, local bodies, private enterprises, and individuals will have to exercise great care in the matter of expenditure. He does not aay that there must be drastio economy, but that there must be prudence.
