WIN FOR PURDY. CONTESTANTS ORDERED TO "LIVEN UP." (PSISS iSSOCIATIOH TELEGBAM.) TAUMARUNUI, April 19. C. Purdy (9st 111b) defeated Hec. McDonald, Australia (9st 61b), in a professional contest on Saturday night for a purse of £l5O. Purdy won comfortably, being much too clever and speedy for bis opponent. The first two rounds were very tame, Purdy scoring freely with light taps. In the third round Mr K. Meale, the. referee, stopped the bout and called the boxers together, telling them they would have' to make it more willing if the fight was to continue. After' that both men livened up and the concluding Tounds were quite interesting, with Purdy unloading a fairly heavy right cross at times. There was not enough sting in it, however, for a knock-out. The amateur bouts were of a very high order, J. Bishara and Joe Smith giving a great display in a six-round light-weight contest which ended in a draw.
