METHVEN A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. > The monthly meeting of the committee of the Methven A. and P. Association was held on Monday evening. <Q£r R. J. Low presided, and there were also present—Messrs Jaß. Campbell, Hy. Maginness, S, Robinson, Jno. Watson, A. T. Lilley, H. J. Freeman, C. Hale, A. L. Hibbs, F. S. McDonald, H. E. Jessep, Jno. Dowling, Gieo. Callaghan, and E. J. Watson. Correspondence was received from Mr G. H. Barnett, of Leoston, accepting the position of judge of the crossbred dairy cattle at the annual show. Mr Jno. Morgan (Mount Somers) advised that he vfcmld be unable to act as judge in the dog section. It was resolved to approach Mr D. Eenwick, "Bayfields," and ask him to accept the position. Mr C. Campbell (Aahburton) agreed to act 8.8 judge in the farm produce section of the show. The secretary of the Royal Agricultural Society advised tnat the second annual conference would be held on May 27th in Wellington The Canterbury Central Dairy Companv forwarded the champion ribbon presented by them for the beat dairy ccV at (he forthcoming show. The South Island A. and P'. Federation wrote advising that the annual meeting would be held on March 19th, and enclosed a copy of the constitution. They also asked for the name of the Association's delegate. It was decided to appoint Mr Jas. Campbell, vice-president, to the position. A ' letter with reference to the Page Memorial Fund was received from the secretary of the Ashburton A. and P. Association. It was decided that members_ of the committee make a canvass to obtain subdcriptions for this fund. The resignations of M««trs R. J. Smith and J. P. McKendry, owing to having left tho" district, were accepted with regret. Messrs R. J. S. Wilson and S. S. Barclay were elected members of tho Association. The committee arranged for the erection of a loading-bank for cattle on the .Show Ground, and Messrs Jas. Campbell and S. Robinson were appointed to supervise the erection of same. Messrs A. M. Hart and A. Paul were appointed stewurds in tho draught section, Mr E. T. Grigg in tho hacks and hunters, and. Mr G. Lilly in the farm produce section. Accounts amounting to £9B were passed fot payment. Mr R. J. Low reported on the work done on the new Show Grounds, and fctated that tho ground was now in better order than ever before. A discussion on the best mixture of grass to sow ensued, and it was decided to sow a mixture of crested dogstail, white clover, and ryegrass. Several members offered the use of teams for the work of sowing down, a#d these offers were accented with thanks. Mr C. Hale offered sufficient ryegrass for the Bowing, free of cost, and Mr A. T. Lilley offered to dress same. The matter o( purchasing the' balance of the ■'ood wa.s left in tho hands of Mr Low. The headmaster of the Methven District High School suggested that a sheep judging competition £or schoolboys be placed on tho programme of the show. He advised that the Education Board's instructor would attend the show, and ho also guaranteed a number of entries for the competition. It was decided to agree to the suggestion. A first prize of £1 Is was given by the Association, 10s 6d by Mr Hy. Maginness, and 5s by Mr H. J. Freeman, as second and third prizes respectively.
