Nominations for the Ashburton T.C.'s 1927 New Zealand Sapling Stakes close to-day at 5 p.m. The grass track at New Brighton was open yesterday for horses engaged at the coining Meeting. All the work •was accomplished on the outside of the course, consequently the times registered were not fast, and with few exceptions few horses were sent against the watch. Loganwood covered two miles in his usual free style. Auguste Dillon assisted over the last mile, but pulled up sore. ' The Kaikoura. Cup winner, Inchbonny, worked two miles without hopples, pacing evenly throughout. Waitaki Girl and Dillon Wilkes were exercised over a journey, and finished fast over the last couple of furlongs. Logan King was always going better than Harley Dillon over a mile. Prince Pointer, who looks bright and well, did half pace over a couple of miles. Her Ladyship showed a nice turn of speed over half a mile, while her stable-mate, Kutuku Jack, paced a mile, but was not sent against, the watch. The trotter Nourmakal acquitted herself well while negotiating a couple of miles. Prince Lyons (harness) appeared to hold Choubra (saddle) safe at the end of a strongly-run two miles. The firstnamed is very well at present. Mangoutu trotted evenly over two miles, and finished full of running. Bold Bill and Eosethomo were companions in a strongly-run mile, there being little between the pair at the finish. Onyx, who has been on the easy list since Otahuhu, was given light exercise. She looks in good fettle, and should come to hand quickly. Others'that did useful exercise were Wire, Tiny Moon, The Thistle, Lord .Bingen, His Majesty, Royal Step, Ramaroa, Waitarere, Lincoln Huon, Rorke's Drift, Exclusive, William the Great, Avenger, and St.-Mihiel. , The aged pacing gelding Rorke's Drift is a recent addition to J.
