A SACRED ANIMAL.

WHITE ELEPHANT FOR ENGLAND, (BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, March 6. A white elephant, which is a sacred animal, is sailing to-day from Rangoon by arrangement with the Association of Burmese Christians, for a four months' exhibition in the London Zoo. The animal will be paraded daily, but in accordance with its semi-sacred character visitors will not be allowed to ride upon it. The last specimen brought to England was in 1883 by Barnum, whose agents were, before receiving the animal, compelled to sign an oath to love and protect it, otherwise by the sin of neglect they would not escape bell.
