LAWN TENNIS.

0 ■ FENDALTON CLUB. OPENING CEREMONY. After a wet morning it was particularly gratifying that bright, sunny weather prevailed for the opening of tho Fcndniton Tennis Club, on Saturday afternoon. In the absence of Mr G. E. Boyds, president of the club, Mr T. D. Harman, vicepresident, declared tho courts open. He was sure, he said, that the Fendalton Club would become ono of the most successful and most important in Christchurch as time- went on. It had seemed strange to him that Fendalton, one of the most beautiful suburbs in Christchurch, had never before had a club. They were all much indebted to the enterprising gentlemen who had taken the matter in hand and had formed tho club. They had started their operations in November, 1921, and since then had gathered enough morey to lay down three oourts. They had enough money left to lay down two more courts when the membership warranted the step. There was now a membership of 11!. and when tho number reached 150 the additional aßphalt courts would be laid In particular he wished to thank Messrs G. E. Royds, M. G. Somerville, E. ,T. Chennell, C. D. Bell. H. Kitson, D. M. Lusk. D. C. Gardiner, G. Mulcoek, F. V. Penlington, and A. Stewart for the work they had done to form the club. Mesdames T. D. Harruan, H. Kitson, and A. Stewart opened the courts by striking balls over tho nets Cheers were then given for Mr Harman and for the club. ,
