SCHOOLS' CRICKET.

CHRIST'S COLLEGE V. OTAGO B.H.S. COLLEGE BATS WELL. Christ's College made 3."50 runs yesterday in the annual match with Otago Boys' Higlt School, and when stumps were drawn School had seven wickets down for loj. Hamilton, who has batted splendidly for College this season, and who is playing in his last' schoolboy match, knocked up 186 runs, without giving a chance. He went in first and his was the ninth wicket to fall, after he had been at the crease for 3 hours and 3-j minutes. For Otago, Priest made a useful 4(>. The best bowling display was by Sugden, who took five of Otago's wickets, three being clean bowled. The mjitch will be continued this morning at Hagley Park. College Innings. ,- College won the toss and sent Dunster. and Hamilton in to face the bowling of D. Cameron. Dunster notched a single, and then sent a full toss to the bowler's hands: 21 —1. T. D. Gibson joined Hamilton, who settled down to his steady game. Priest, who had been bowling from the south end, was relieved by Cavanagh after three overs. Scoring was rather slow, 30 being brought up after three-quarters of an hour's play. A square leg boundary by Gibson brought, applause, and that batsman drove Maloncy, the slow bowler, for four in the next over. However, Priest clean "bowled him a few minutes later: 55 —2 —23. Maloney's slow balls appealed io Hamilton, and he lifted one over the on boundary for six. The newcomer, Whytc, scored a single, and was lucky not'to be caught out when be miss-hit Priest. The play had brightened up and 70 came up after tin minutes. Whyto gave, a hard chance to slips, but was missed. He notched a couple and then snicked an off ball to McLeod in slips. 83—3—5. Wilson joined Hamilton, who hit the new bowler, Allen, for fottr, and in. the next over late-cut Priest to the boundary. The new man began to score by hitting Allen to the boundary. After 90 minutes' play the score was 110. The Hamilton-Gibson partnership was a good one, both men playing confidently and driving cleanly. Boundaries came regularly, although the fielding was crisp. Hard Hitting, The slow bowler, Maloncy, sent a leg break to Wilson, who skied it and was just missed. The next two balls he lifted over the fence, and when Hamilton drove Maloney to the boundary 22 had been hit off the over. Wilson finished an excellent strike by giving McLeod a chance in slips: 177—4—-44. Two balls later Cavanagh hit Cottrell s ]eg .. i77_s_o. Otago tried another bowler, Beasley,* and only a single was hit off the over. The newcomer, Tripe, turned Cavanagh nicely to leg for four, and off the last ball before the adjournment Hamilton notched a single and reached his century. .Scoring was brisk after luncheon. Tripe had added a. useful 21 before, he was skittled by Cameron: 235—6—21. Sugden took the vacant crease and did not make a brilliant showing before Cameron hit his stumps: 249—7—A For a period the batsmen, Hamilton and Garder, played carefully, Cavanagh sending up the first maiden. Garder stepped out to hit Cavanagh, and the wicket-keeper. Young knocked, his bails off. 265—8-6. . Armstrong was next man. .Hamilton Was making brilliant shots on occasion, and he drove Cameron twice for four. However, he was getting careless, and his timing was not as accurate as it had been, and the batsmen did some lucky running between wickets. After getting a few singles, Armstrong brought 300 up. with a nice boundary. College had been in for 200 minutes. Hamilton's square leg stroke was his best scoring, shot. He lifted Cherry to square leg, and Allan held a good catch 330—9—186. Hamilton's masterly innings included 24 fours and a six, and he was at the wickets for 3 hours and 35 minutes. Ball was the last man, and he began to get singles immediately. - Armstrong had been hitting out, and when he stepped out to Cherry, the wicketkeepcr stumped him. 350—10—32. Otago's Strike. Otago opened with Cameron and •Priest, Wilson and Sugden bowling. The batsmen took no risks, contenting themselves with notching singles and couples. Cameron drove Sugden hard, and the bowler took a beautiful catch. 27 —I—lo.1—10. Allan, who made a century in last year's match, showed'signs of being set. Ho off drove in good style,, but runs came slowly. The half-century was put on the board after 55 minutes' play. Priest was cutting accurately, and his hooks to fine : le'g brought runs. Armstrong and Ball replaced Sugden and Wilson at the trundling. ' Allan lifted Ball to cover, and Hamilton accepted the catch. 77 —2—27. Cavanagh took the crease, and, hit a few singles. Sugden. was sending down fast stuff, and Priest tried to hit out at a hot one, which caught his stumps. 95—3—46. Priest had been in for 75 minutes, and he had hit four fours, and wielded his bat with skill. Otago \s wicket-keeper, Young, was not at ease to Ball, w ; hom he blocked consistently, but he hit Sugden. The century was brought up after 90 minutes. Another straight ball ' from Sugden skittled Young. 109—4 —8. The newcomer, McLeod, did not survive the first ball. 109—5 —0. Cavanagh was hitting freely, and ' Otago was unfortunate to lose him when he was run out. 115— 6—17. Sugden varied his bowling well, and occasionally sent down a hot one, which had Maloney thinking. The cricket was uninteresting. The batsmen were very cautious, and the bowling gave them few chances to hit. Cherry patted one from Sugden, and Hamilton, diving in, held the ball off the.ground. 133—7—2. It looked a 3 though Barr was going to speed up the scoring rate. Ho drove his first ball for. two, and shortly afterwards sent Wilson' to the boundary. The College fielding was bright and snappy. Hamilton and Cottrell bowled the last overs. Stumps were drawn at 6.30 p.m. Scores:—
