Speaking of the fiver, Cr. McKellar Baid that it had oiily onoti penetrated ah far as ChriMtchUfbh, This Was in 1804, whea it reached the Avon near the ISorth belt, but with the prosent system of drains the water would never get so far again. He considered that a lot of .trouble was caused in the Waimakanri by willows and ' goree blocking the channels.
