North, machinist at the railway workshops, was presented by his fellow employees with a smoker's outfit. Mr A. E. Tarrant, leading painter at the Greymouth Railway Workshops, wlio has been transferred to T'etono, was on Friday presented with a case of pipes by the Greymouth Workshops staff. The death occurred at the Grey Hospital to-dav of Mr Frederick William Campbell, 'of Totara Flat. Deceased was 78 years of age, and had resided at Totara Flat over forty years. He was for some time a member of the WesUand Licensing Committee. He is survived by a widow and adult family of one son and seven daughters. The funeral of the late Mrs T. I). Blaekadder took place at Ecefton yestcrdav, and was largely attended, the, cortege including many residents from the Tnangahua and Maruia \alleys. The Rev. A sitting of the Greymouth Magistrate's Court to-day was presided over by Mr W. Meldrum, S.M. An inquest was held at the Hokitika Magistrate's Court to-day before Mr D. J. Evans, Coroner, touching on a fire which occurred on llau Hau Hill on 30th ult, when an unoccupied house owned by Thos. Robinson, jun., and insured for £IOO, was destroyed by fire Inspector Eccleg conducted the case for the police, and Mr J. A. Murdoch apneared for the owner of the premises.
