CRICKET.
OTAGO V. CANTERBURY. MATCH ON CHBISTMAS DAY. The annual fixture between Otago and Canterbury in inter-provincial cricket commences at Lancaster Park on Christinas Day at two o'clock. Otago are the present holders of the Plunket Shield, and are expected to send a strong eleven on tour in order to defend the trophy. There has always been a healthy rivalry between the two provinces, and past games have produced some very fine contests. The Canterbury eleven that has been selected, while not the strongest on account of some players being away in Australia with the New Zealand team, will no doubt give the visitors a hard game, so that there should be plenty of incident in the match. Play will be continued on Boxing Day. and the following Monday, until a conclusion is reached.
