Five different breeds of sheep were represented—Coniedales, Rom- ' noys, Linoolns, JXerinos, and Idteals. A great many were prizewinners, and included a fair proportion bought at the Royal Show. Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., who shipped 164 head, advise ihit the liincoln sheep for the Argentine were drawn from the Il6cks of Messrs A, E. Anderson {Clareville), William Eayner (Maaterton),' William Pen 7 and Sen (Masterton), W. Howard Booth (Carterton), L. R. WilLon. (Opald), and the estate of the late Sir Walter Buchanan. Amongst these were Mr Anderson's champion fourtooth raid at both the Manawatuand Waire rapa Shows. This ram is said to be the beat ,woolled ram that has yet been exsported from the Bcminion. Another valuable sheep was Mr Rayner's four-tooth, . , v.hion also> won -the reserve championship at the Royal Show; Messrs Perry and Son's iirst prize Royal Show hogget and the two . rams which won the pairs cf hoggets class i for Mr Raynor, v>ere also included. Other rams which were prize-winners at the Hawke's Bay, Manawatu, and Wairarapa - ' Shows for Messrs A. E. Anderson, L. R. ' ' . Wilton, and W. Rayner, completed the liincoln consignment. Three very .fine Romney , rams from Mr R. W. Matthews'a Waiorongomai, Featheraton, and nine cf Mr. H. T. .'Little's (Woodgrove, Canterbury) pnze- ' winning Corriedales at tho Royal Show,, were also shippeS to ■ the Argentine. . To the same country there were also shipped . five Corriedale rams and five ewes bred in the Bushey Park; Stud, Otago, by Mr J. • 'A. Johnstone. A. large shipment of Corried&les from the latter etud' to Chile is to be made at a. later date.; Another valuable lot- of sheep were dispatched for tranßhip- ' ment at Monte Video to Punta. Arenas, and will eventually find their way to Rio Grande Terra del Fuego, Strait of Magellan. These comprised sheep personally selected • r by Mr R. E. Thompson, a former. New Zeitlander, who is now managing a large estancia for Messrs Meneubez Behety. Before arriving - at their destination, these sheep wdll need to be transhipped at three different South American ports. It is tie heavy expense in connexion with this continual rehandling that is preventing the export trade developing as quickly as it might. In all, Mr Thompson selected twenty-two ' Romney rams and two special stud Corriedale rams froin Mr H. T. Eittle's flock. Kins of the Romneys were bredat Waiorongamoi, three' by Mr Quinton Donald, Alloa, Featherston, one each by Messrs F. E. Dorsot, Opaki, and ■W. H. Buick and Son, - Daisyburn, Mafiterton. Eight sheep were \ »Uo selected from the South Island studs owned by Messrs A. S. Holms, Waimahaka, Donald .McDonald, Edendaie, Castlerock Estate, Lumsden, and Murray Bros., Clyde*al«. Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co., in conjunction with: their Australian agents, ■hipped, a very valuable consignment of Australian merinos to the Argentine by the Matakana, which sailed for London, via Monte Video and Teneriffe. on Thursday. The shipment consisted; of 40 rams and 6 ewes. It is understood that one of the rams is valued at over £SOO, while the total value of the sheep is in the vicinity of £3OOO. The merinos were in first-class condition, •nd given due attention as.regards feeding, etc:, are expected tc stand the voyage weil. The same firm is also interested in a project for shipping a number of South Island Romneys to the Argentine.
