SANDERS CUP TRIALS., WIN fiOR BETTY. . The second trial to choose a boat'to represent Canterbury in the Sanders Cup contests to be held in Dunedin next February was sailed at Redcliffs on Saturday afternoon. ■ A' light nor'-east breete. was bloving. The course was from . a point off the Christchurch Sailing Club's. . pavilion paat Fishermen's Point, to a buoy moored bff Skylark 'lsland, twice round.' Betty was first across the'line on-a full tide -when the. gun went at 3.16 pjn. Linnet, Secret, and Usher fallowed at equal distances apart. Betty gradually increased her lead up to Fishermen's Point: • Usher passed Secret and Linnet, and looked'like taking the lead, • but did not keep her position long. Secret and Usher were now in a bad position, as the tide was running out fast, and they barely held their own. Betty and Linnet fared better, Betty passing Fishermen's 9min 4Ssec ahead of Linnet. Betty immediately flew spinnaker on the nn\ ro Skylark, Linnet following behind with spinnawer flying. Very keen interest was taken by the big crowd of spectators on the shore. The four boats were eauily picked out by their distinctive colourings.
